Part-baked rolls in the Ninja Crispi

Quickly reheat and brown your store-bought part-baked rolls using the Ninja Crispi in under 10 minutes, with a simple trick to prevent the crust from drying out.

Which Ninja Crispi?

Mode used: Air Fry

Settings

  • Crispi: Air Fry, no temperature setting, 5-7 min, 3.8 L container
  • Crispi Pro (AS101), Crispi Pro (AS090), Crispi Pro Grill, Crispi DualZone: Air Fry, 180 °C, 5-8 min

Reheating a few part-baked rolls on a Sunday morning without having to turn on the main oven is exactly the use case intended for the 3.8 L container. To cook this Ninja Crispi roll without turning it into a rusk, the useful trick is to very lightly moisten its crust before placing the adapter.

This express browning saves my quick breakfasts in my apartment. The Air Fry mode colours the surface in just a few minutes. I keep an eye through the glass while the coffee is brewing to stop at the right moment.

Reheat your part-baked rolls using the Air Fry mode for a quick breakfast, with a touch of moisture to keep the crumb soft.

Ingredients

  • 4 part-baked white rolls (such as mini baguettes or round rolls)

  • A little water (to moisten the crust)

Instructions

  • Ensure the crisper plate is correctly installed at the bottom of the container before placing the rolls. The plate is well seated at the bottom to ensure good hot air circulation under the rolls.
  • Very lightly moisten the surface of the rolls with a little water, using a brush or by passing your damp hands over them. The crust should be barely shiny, not soaked. This prevents the surface from drying out too quickly.
  • Place the rolls on the crisper plate, leaving a little space. The rolls should not touch to allow for uniform browning.
  • Place the adapter and the PowerPod. Select Air Fry, 7 minutes, and press START. On an adjustable model (Pro or DualZone), set the temperature to 180 °C.
  • Cook the rolls for 5 to 7 minutes, monitoring the browning through the glass during the last two minutes. If the rolls brown too quickly, lift the PowerPod to stop cooking. The rolls are golden and crispy to the touch.

Stuffed rolls

Cut the rolls in half before cooking. Stuff each half with tomato sauce, cheese, and herbs, then cook them in Air Fry mode. Remove the PowerPod 3 minutes before the end, add a drizzle of olive oil or garlic butter, then replace the PowerPod and press START to finish browning.

Adjustments according to the container and model

The Air Fry mode is ideal for reheating and browning store-bought part-baked bread across the entire Crispi range. The hot air quickly sears the part-baked dough, but you must adapt the settings.

The 3.8 L container comfortably accommodates four round rolls or two short mini baguettes placed on the bottom plate for optimal air circulation.

  • Basic Crispi model: the Air Fry mode alone offers quick browning of the crust.
  • Pro and DualZone models: the 180 °C setting is my starting point, as no value is published for bread.
  • 1.4 L container: convenient for reheating a single roll, watching the colour through the glass from the start.

Keeping the crust soft and golden

The hot air flow from the Air Fry mode tends to quickly dehydrate part-baked bread and baked goods in general. Moisten the surface with water using a brush before placing the PowerPod. This film of water protects the crust during the first few minutes and allows the crumb to heat up without the outer layer becoming hard and brittle.

Check the browning through the glass wall during the last two minutes. The rolls are ready when they sound hollow if you tap the bottom. As soon as the desired colour is reached, lift the PowerPod to stop the heating immediately and take the rolls out.

Storage and direct service

Reheated rolls should be eaten immediately after cooking. Unlike saucy dishes, they tend to harden quickly as they cool in the open air.

Do not prepare these rolls in advance. Cook only the amount you are going to eat during the meal.

If you have leftovers of part-baked rolls that were already cooked the day before, put them back in Recrisp mode for 5 to 12 minutes to restore their crispiness. Always let the container cool completely before placing the plastic storage lid on to store your other food in the fridge.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cook frozen rolls?

Thaw them first: Recrisp mode is not suitable for frozen food, and no time is published for frozen bread.

Should I use the 1.4 L container for a single roll?

Yes, the 1.4 L container suits one or two round rolls. No time is published for this container: watch the colour through the glass from the start.

My rolls are too hard, why?

The Air Fry mode heats intensely. Generously moisten the crust with water before cooking, and reduce the time by two minutes next time.
