Crispy chicken wings in the Ninja Crispi (no deep-frying)

Crispy and golden chicken wings in the Ninja Crispi without using a deep-fryer. Discover how to cook and shake your wings in the 3.8 L container.

Which Ninja Crispi?

Mode used: Air Fry

Settings

  • Crispi: Air Fry, no temperature setting, 40-45 min, 3.8 L container
  • Crispi Pro (AS101), Crispi Pro (AS090): Air Fry, 200 °C, 25-35 min
  • Crispi DualZone: Air Fry, 200 °C, 30-33 min, 3.8 L container

For match nights or TV dinners, I prepare Ninja Crispi chicken wings directly in the 3.8 L container. The device gives a crispy skin without deep-frying, provided you dry the meat well before seasoning it.

The large container of my Crispi allows me to start cooking without transferring, making Sunday prep easy. Two turns, with 20 and then 8 minutes left, are enough for every piece to brown.

Crispy chicken wings prepared and cooked directly in the 3.8 L container of the Crispi, turned twice during cooking.

Ingredients

  • 1.2 kg chicken wings (flats and drumettes)

  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (sunflower or grapeseed)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Thoroughly dry the chicken wings with paper towels. The skin must no longer be damp to get a good crisp.
  • Place the crisper plate at the bottom of the 3.8 L container. Add the wings, the oil, and the spices, then toss directly using silicone tongs or your hands to coat each piece.
  • Place the adapter and the PowerPod on the container. Select the Air Fry mode and set the time to 40 to 45 minutes. On a Crispi Pro or Pro 5 modes: Air Fry at 200 °C for 25 to 35 minutes for 1 kg; on the DualZone, 30 to 33 minutes for 1 kg per 3.8 L container. Press START.
  • When 20 minutes remain, lift the PowerPod and turn the wings with silicone-tipped tongs, then replace it and press START. Repeat when 8 minutes remain.
  • At the end of the cycle (“END” is displayed), check that the largest pieces are cooked with a cooking thermometer before serving. The core temperature must reach 75 °C.

Teriyaki chicken wings

Cook the wings with just the oil, salt and pepper. Once they reach 75 °C at the core, take them out of the container, toss them in 100 ml teriyaki sauce and scatter over thinly sliced spring onions and sesame seeds: a sugary sauce burns over 40 minutes of cooking.

Air Fry mode and large container: the right settings

The Air Fry mode provides that expected golden texture without submerging the poultry in oil. For a quantity of 1.2 kg of wings, choosing the 3.8 L container is important to let the air circulate correctly around the pieces.

  • basic Crispi: 3.8 L container with adapter, 1.2 kg, Air Fry mode for 40 to 45 min.
  • Crispi Pro and Pro 5 modes: Air Fry at 200 °C for 25 to 35 min for 1 kg.
  • DualZone: Air Fry at 200 °C for 30 to 33 min for 1 kg per 3.8 L container, tossing 2 to 3 times.

No baking paper in the container of the basic Crispi. The heat envelops each piece to ensure pronounced browning from all angles.

Monitoring browning and limiting opening

Cooking is monitored directly through the glass. You can watch the skin brown gradually. Overloading the container with more than 1.2 kg of meat blocks the air: the wings will then steam instead of roasting, remaining soft and relatively pale.

There is no need to lift the PowerPod every ten minutes: turn the wings twice, with 20 and then 8 minutes left, using silicone tongs. Opening too often causes the accumulated heat to escape and lengthens the browning process. The final check requires a cooking thermometer: insert it to 75 °C core temperature in a thick drumette to verify cooking is complete.

Cooking, cooling and reheating

The large container allows you to prepare the recipe and cook in the same volume, reducing washing up. Once the meal is finished, if you have leftovers, wait for them to cool down completely before putting on the storage lid.

To reheat cold portions the next day, use the Recrisp mode for 5 to 12 minutes, until they are piping hot at the core (75 °C). The wings regain their surface crispiness without drying out. If the drumettes are particularly meaty, you can cut them in two to speed up reheating to the core.

Which spices do you add to flavour your chicken wings in the Crispi?

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the 1.4 L container for this recipe?

Yes, but you must reduce the quantity to 250 g of wings (about one portion) with 1 teaspoon of oil. Cooking in Air Fry mode takes 20 to 25 minutes on the Crispi. Air must always circulate around the pieces.

Should I space out the chicken wings in the container?

Not one by one: do not put more than 1.2 kg in the 3.8 L container, as beyond that the pieces overlap too much and steam instead of roasting. The two turns move around the pieces that touch.

Can I cook frozen chicken wings?

Thaw them in the fridge first and pat them dry, then follow the recipe: the 40 to 45 minutes apply to fresh wings, and cooking is confirmed at 75 °C at the core.
